Iran's President Raisi Helicopter Crash
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the foreign minister crashed while travelling back from East Azerbaijan.
Tehran, Iran – A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the foreign minister crashed while travelling back from East Azerbaijan, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
The helicopter crashed in a mountainous area near the city of Rafsanjan, Kerman province, IRNA reported.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties.
Raisi was visiting East Azerbaijan to inaugurate a number of projects, including a petrochemical plant, IRNA said.
The crash comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following a series of airstrikes in Syria that Israel has blamed on Iran.
It also comes amid ongoing negotiations between Iran and world powers over Iran's nuclear program.
