Anthony Edwards, born August 5, 2001, is the son of Roger Caruth and Chrisha Yvette Edwards. Edwards grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and was the youngest of three children. He was close to his mother, who instilled in him a strong work ethic.

Edwards earned the nickname "Ant-Man" or "Ant 1" from his father, Roger Caruth. This nickname would later become synonymous with his basketball career. He led his high school team to a state championship and was recruited by the University of Kentucky.
