How to Safely Remove Acrylic Nails at Home
Materials Needed:
- Nail clippers
- Nail file
- Acetone
- Acetone-soaked cotton balls
- Aluminum foil
- Hot water bowl
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Hot Water Bowl
* Fill a bowl with hot water at 105-110°F (40-43°C). * Submerge your nails in the water for 15-20 minutes. This will help soften the acrylic and make it easier to remove.
2. File the Surface Layer
* Use a coarse nail file to lightly buff the surface of the acrylic nails. * This will create small scratches that will allow the acetone to penetrate more effectively.
3. Apply Acetone
* Dampen cotton balls with acetone. * Place the acetone-soaked cotton balls on each acrylic nail. * Wrap each finger with aluminum foil to secure the cotton balls.
4. Wait and Remove
* Leave the aluminum foil wraps on for 20-30 minutes. * The acetone will dissolve the acrylic, making it easy to remove. * Gently pry off the acrylic nails using a nail pusher or cuticle stick.
5. Clean Up
* Remove any remaining acrylic residue with acetone. * Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. * Apply cuticle oil or moisturizer to nourish your nails.
Tips:
* Avoid pulling or tearing off the acrylic nails, as this can damage your natural nails. * Use a nail pusher or cuticle stick to gently lift the edges of the acrylic nails. * If the acrylic does not come off easily, soak your nails in hot water for a few more minutes. * Do not use acetone-based nail polish remover, as it may not be strong enough to dissolve acrylic nails. * Always wear gloves when using acetone to protect your skin.
